The CDC has updated the list of conditions that put adults at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 to include Down syndrome. This decision is supported by data from several sources, including an international survey initiated by the Trisomy 21 Research Society (T21RS). The T21RS survey results showed that adults with Down syndrome, particularly over the age of 40, had a higher risk of mortality from COVID-19 than adults without Down syndrome of a similar age. This is important information for states to consider when allocating COVID-19 vaccines and for individuals to consider as they decide whether or not to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
