Did you know? While some progress has been made, bias against people with Down syndrome persists in health care.

Ableism or disability bias is the belief that the quality of life of a person with a disability is inherently less than that of a person without a disability. The impact of ableist perceptions was evidenced by the experiences of many people with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Brian Chicoine, MD, the medical director of the Adult Down Syndrome Center, co-authored an article on this topic called "Ableism at the Bedside: People with Intellectual Disabilities and COVID-19."

Dr. Chicoine will also present a webinar on this topic on Wednesday, October 19 at 1pm ET / 12pm CT / 10am PT. The webinar is hosted by LuMind IDSC Foundation. There is no cost to attend but registration is required. Additional information can be found on LuMind IDSC Foundation's website The preceding link opens in a new tab or window..
