Did you know? Some people with Down syndrome may experience a delayed response to grief.

While the grieving process is unique to each individual, we have learned from individuals with Down syndrome and their families that there are some aspects of grieving that many people with Down syndrome seem to have in common. For example, some seem to experience a delayed response to grief. Additionally, some people may grieve for longer than may be expected and discuss a death or loss in very current and immediate terms, even if the death or loss occurred many years ago. Differences in how time is perceived may contribute to delayed and prolonged grieving. Our Resource Library has several resources on grief and loss and how to support a person with Down syndrome who is grieving.
