Celebrating our physicians

Today is National Doctors’ Day! We are fortunate to have 5 wonderful physicians at the Adult Down Syndrome Center.

Brian Chicoine, MD

Medical school: Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

Residency: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

Bio: Dr. Chicoine is a family physician and the Medical Director of the Center. He co-founded the Center in January 1992. He is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He has provided medical care for adults with intellectual disabilities for over 35 years and has presented and written extensively on caring for adults with Down syndrome. While Dr. Chicoine no longer sees patients, he continues to work full time on research and education projects to share his knowledge and help improve health of all people with Down syndrome.

Fun fact: Dr. Chicoine enjoys spending time with his family, especially his 2 grandchildren.

 

Erin Dominiak, MD

Medical school: Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

Residency: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

Bio: Dr. Dominiak is a family physician who joined the team in September 2007. She is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and the Medical Director of the Park Ridge Healthcare Center, a nursing home that primarily serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She sees patients at the Adult Down Syndrome Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Fun fact: Dr. Dominiak has an adorable black cat named Kiwi.

 

Hannah Graham, MD

Medical school: Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

Residency: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

Bio: Dr. Graham is a family physician who joined the team in September 2021. She is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. She is also the Assistant Education Director of Family Medicine at Rosaline Franklin University Chicago Medical School. She sees patients at the Adult Down Syndrome Center on Monday mornings, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday mornings.

Fun fact: Dr. Graham has 4 children, including a young daughter with Down syndrome.

 

Farah Chaus, MD

Medical school: Chicago Medical School

Residency: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

Bio: Dr. Chaus is a family physician who joined the team in January 2024. She is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. She is also certified in Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Chaus teaches the Family Medicine residents and sees patients at the Nesset Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic. She sees patients at the Adult Down Syndrome Center on Wednesday mornings.

Fun fact: Dr. Chaus speaks 4 languages – English, Gujarati, Hindi, and Urdu!

 

Shelly Verma, DO, MSGPH

Medical school: Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine

Residency: Advocate Lutheran General Hospital

Bio: Dr. Verma is the newest member of our team! She is a family physician who joined the team in February 2025. She is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Dr Verma has special interests in underserved populations, health equity research, and advocacy. She sees patients at the Adult Down Syndrome Center on Monday afternoons, Tuesdays, Wednesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, and Fridays.

Fun fact: Dr. Verma completed a Global Health Faculty Development Fellowship at Brown University where she received a Masters in Science in Global Public Health in 2021.
