Constipation is a common health issue experienced by people with Down syndrome.
Constipation can cause discomfort, bloating, and decreased appetite. If not addressed, it can lead to a number of more serious health issues. Eating foods with fiber, drinking plenty of water, and exercising are non-medicinal ways to address constipation. Sometimes the addition of a fiber supplement, stool softener, or mild laxative is necessary, all of which should be discussed with your healthcare provider before initiating.
