Did you know?
Individuals with Down syndrome are "people first."
"People first" is often used to describe the language we use when talking about Down syndrome. Someone is a person with Down syndrome, not a Down syndrome person. But it also refers to a mindset that encourages us to recognize that individuals with Down syndrome have many of the same needs, desires, and goals as everyone else. The video linked here called "If the Shoe was on the Other Foot" is one way to spread awareness of the "people first" mindset.
