Compromise

What does compromise mean?

  • Not always getting your way.

  • Doing something that is not your idea.

Compromise...

  • Requires flexible thinking.

  • Is a skill that helps us develop and maintain healthy relationships.

Example: Jacob and Cristina

Jacob wants to get burgers and see a movie.

Cristina wants to get pizza and go bowling.

What should Jacob and Cristina do?

  • Compromise 1: Do one thing that they both want to do.

Get the food that Jacob wants (burgers). Do the activity that Cristina wants (bowling).

  • Compromise 2: Do one of their choices this time and the other person's choices the other time.

Time 1: Get the food that Jacob wants (burgers) and do the activity that Jacob wants (movie).

Time 2: Get the food that Cristina wants (pizza) and do the activity that Cristina wants (bowling).

  • Compromise 3: Decide together to do something that is not either of their first choices.

Get ice cream and go for a walk in a park.
